From its inception in our Brooklyn loft to its evolution in various studios all over, we worked tirelessly on our debut record, pouring our sounds into these songs until they could sing back to us all on their own.
In the process of bringing this music to life, we were encouraged by many in some incredibly special ways, but we were also told, time and time again, that our sound wasn't 'commercial' enough, that we needed 'poppier' hooks, more major chords, less songs in minor keys.
Thank you Bob Boilen for counting our debut as one of your Top 10 Albums Of 2017 and for calling our song "Only A Child" one of your Top 50 Songs Of 2017. Thank you to NPR Music for counting "Only A Child" among your 100 Best Songs Of 2017. This recognition of our work at the year's end means so, very much to us. It humbles us deeply and it keeps us going, inspired to create more sounds, push more boundaries, and take more risks.
To the whole NPR family, this has been a whirlwind of a year for so many reasons, but your commitment to independent journalism and your fight for the freedom of press is important and inspiring. Thank you for staying awake and helping us wake up.
A final HUGE thank you to anyone and everyone who found our music this year, gave it a listen or shared it with a friend. We are endlessly grateful and motivated to continue making art in this wild world we live in.
